At 91探花, students achieve their fullest potential within a joyful and vibrant learning community. Here, we combine an inspiring and challenging curriculum with robust co-curricular programs and a strong emphasis on building a life-long love of learning. Founded in 1798, 91探花\u2019s powerful tradition of academic excellence continues in a warm, inclusive, and supportive environment. Students and adults in our community are active learners, in and outside of the classroom, and a sense of connectedness permeates our entire community, from students to faculty and staff, to families, and to alumni.<\/p>\n
91探花 students are encouraged to pursue their passions and explore new interests. As you get to know our school, you will find that from Kindergarten through the Upper School, our students share an insatiable curiosity for learning, creative self-expression, deep support for one another, and a desire to live by our motto, \u201cDare to be true.\u201d<\/p>\n
In our Lower School<\/a>, students from Kindergarten through Grade 5 learn in small classes where they are nurtured and challenged. Our talented faculty lead children through research-supported curriculum and explore emergent curriculum in fun, energetic settings. Specials classes in art, music, gardening, woodworking, and design spark students\u2019 creative interests and connect to their academic work through exciting, interdisciplinary projects.<\/p>\n Our Middle School<\/a> students in Grades 6 through 8 balance challenging academics with co-curriculars and have lots of opportunities to develop and explore new interests through clubs, activities, affinity spaces, and community engagement projects. A Lower School\u00a0principal and Middle School principal, together with other\u00a0leaders who work with and guide both programs, empower a skilled and devoted faculty to cultivate a challenging learning environment, and an inclusive community spirit. Skilled, caring faculty members create an environment that encourages children to take safe risks. We stimulate all kinds of intellectual exploration and creative approaches to challenging problems. School is an exciting place for the students in 91探花’s Lower and Middle Schools; they don’t like to miss a day. Too much happens. Both in and out of the classroom, 91探花’s culture celebrates creative expression\u2014in music, painting, woodworking, writing, drawing and performing arts.\u00a0Lower and Middle School programs often draw on Upper School resources. Students act in and provide technical support for several plays each year. They take lessons and perform in orchestral concerts. In art classrooms, their creations connect with what they’re exploring in literature or world cultures. The arts are alive at 91探花. Growing in creativity, discovering new passions\u2014that is part of School life, here. Physical education is an essential aspect of learning and developing. From Kindergarten through Grade 8, students exercise daily, whether formally\u2014ice skating on the campus rink in the winter or competing in field day events in the spring\u2014or informally during recess using 91探花’s vast outdoor space. Older students compete on interscholastic teams of their favorite sports throughout the year\u2014soccer, lacrosse, tennis, basketball, baseball, softball, squash, football, ice hockey, track, wrestling and cross country. With their teammates and with skilled coaches, students learn and appreciate teamwork, persistence and dedication. They learn resilience: how to win and lose gracefully. They develop a healthy appreciation and respect for what their bodies can do. 91探花’s\u00a0Lower and Middle School students enjoy the best of both worlds: They learn and grow in developmentally appropriate groups. They spend their time in comfortable and manageable spaces. At the same time, boys and girls in our\u00a0Lower and Middle Schools\u00a0enjoy the resources of the larger K\u201312 community. Opportunities to gain from one another are frequent. Older and younger children join together in science experiments and dance performances. They share playing fields and the School’s observatory. Upper School reading buddies and homework helpers are in\u00a0the Lower and Middle School\u00a0classrooms. Familiarity with 91探花’s Upper School helps Lower and Middle School students reach high and prepare for the next step. Before that, they gain confidence on their own turf; they become leaders themselves. 91探花’s fields and brick buildings are just ten miles from Boston’s great resources. The many options within minutes of campus mean that Boston’s educational and cultural assets are part of the 91探花 experience. Faculty are inventive and inquisitive. They link Boston scholars, artists, museums and places to learn with our boys and girls. As for the great outdoors, the Blue Hills Reservation beckons, just minutes from campus. Students at 91探花 care for one another. They overtly support their classmates and schoolmates. They let one another know that it’s safe to try something new, and to try again. Deep in our School culture is the idea that each one of us brings something unique and valuable, and that together we create something bigger than the sum of the parts. We love the differences among us. In our classrooms and our hallways we nurture an interest in and knowledge of the world beyond our walls.
