The Kindergarten year is designed to support children\u2019s developing sense of self in relation to a new community. DEIJ and Social Studies activities often provide students with opportunities to explore and express their identities and learn about the identities of their classmates and teachers. Through daily routines and community times, we guide students to co-create an effective, supportive learning community.<\/p>\n

Often, Kindergarteners are doing both at the same time. For instance, there is so much mathematics involved in discussing the calendar during community meetings, and there is so much powerful community-building that happens as students learn how to build on one another\u2019s thinking during academic classes. Thanks to our small class sizes, we can provide individualized learning experiences for each of our students; this is especially true during our phonics and reading classes, where we use research-based, scientific approaches to support each child on their individual reading journey.
